Music of Yesteryear
Performed by Sylvia Sowray, Bridget Budge & Kim Kaye. The concert will feature many romantic numbers by the great songwriters Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Hoagy Carmichael and Ivor Novello. There will be an opportunity to sing along with some Novello, some old time music hall songs and some patriotic proms numbers to finish.
Sylvia has won the Mrs Sunderland, Holmfirth and Wharfedale music competitions and has performed many times for charity under her maiden name of Sylvia Petts.
She has recorded two CD’s which feature the romantic numbers by the great songwriters Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Hoagy Carmichael and Ivor Novello, a particular favourite of hers.
Bridget Budge took up singing whilst reading for a music degree at Trinity College, Cambridge. Being possessed of an extremely dark and rich true contralto voice, after completing her vocal studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal College of Music, she went on to specialise in oratorio and concert work both here in the UK and widely in Germany.
Kim Kaye is a pianist, flute and music theory teacher and accompanist. Having studied piano at the Royal Academy of Music in London, she now lives in the Holme Valley and plays for Marsh Ladies’ Choir, the Holme Valley Youth Choir and Bolsterstone Male Voice Choir.
